Leave some Avril ammo on Torlan !!

At the home base on Torlan, there are two ammo packs for the Avril. I
cannot tell you the number of times some dumbass grabs both ammo
packs.

Take one ammo pack and leave the other for the next guy. If you make
it to the middle node, you can replenish your Avril ammo there.

What's worse is when some idiot grabs both ammo packs and then
proceeds to jump in the Raptor, inevitably getting shot down within a
minute. He's wasted two precious ammo packs which he probably never
intended on firing anyway, since 90% of Raptor pilots die in the air
without using any other weapons.

Good call ! I must admit, I think I'm guilty of this one myself a few
times when in a rush.

Yep, in a very real sense a Raptor *is* an Avril. A big, flying
Avril cannon. Nothing better for taking out goliaths, leviathans,
mantas, and other raptors. When I go Raptoring I rarely pick up any
weaponry except Redeemers and Target Painters :)

There oughtta be a quick IQ test before joining most servers.

This is really a more general problem, as many maps have a pattern of ammo-
weapon-ammo, and one can often use just one box and leave the other for the
next guy. The mapper should really have placed the group in an "L" instead
of a line, so that one would grab only one pack unless one made the turn at
the weapon. Most people are in a rush to get to the battle, so with the
stuff in a row, it's hard NOT to take all 3.

But some, including me, do this - when fightting raptor vs raptor and both,me
and the enemy, were hit once I stop fireing the rockets from raptor.I begin
to fly low and suddenly jump out and lock on the guy's raptor and fire an
AVRiL...he shoots my Raptor thinking he got me and he gets Lock On warning
but it's to late...I have 5 sec's to say: "See ya baby" and I continue on
with my terror mission😀
It worked more then once...AFAIR i didn't work just once:)

And after this action,I'm left with 15 avril rockets which is just
enough, when you have nothing more,to go and fight...

So the five I have is enough for me? Wouldn't we be better of with 10

That still doesn't mean you should grab both ammo packs. The team is
better off if two people are armed than just one.

If you did take an Avril you and somebody took the Raptor there are low
chances that you'll get off the base on a vehicle..so you can w8 for it
cause there is nothing there to do or walk to the next nod set it up and
quick teleport to the base for the avril pack and telepotr back...
Dude, you need to know how to kill with everything...so stop whineing and
practice shooting down Rapotors and mantas with shock rifles...
C U on the field...

That doesn't necessarily follow.

Why not follow your own advice about proficiency with multiple weapons
instead of grabbing *all* the Avril ammo?

Sorry, you just don't strike me as much of a team player. Here's
hoping if we see you on the field its on the opposing team :)

Why is that so? What about a Manta or the Hellbender?

The possibility that when you ran to raptor and somebody took it right
before your nose means that the other vehicles are leaving too...
But when you play 2v2 they r still w8ing for you,sure..

No,my point is that I grab the Avril and you grab something else...(grenades
or sniper)
Do you have to be equiped with everything to go in action?
How do you start a game? You go for the avril, grenades, sniper w8 for Mega
health and armor and go into battle??
Or is it just that the easiest weapon is avril so you stick to that?

In ONS just about everyone needs to be equipped with Avril shots, its
just too good of an anti-vehicle weapon. Not everyone needs grenades.

So you want to say that without an Avril you are useless?

I'll grant you some leeyway as English doesn't appear to be a native
language, but otherwise I'd think you're being deliberately obtuse
about this issue. No, I do not think one is "useless" in ONS without
Avril ammo nor did my posting say or even suggest such. However,
there are some simple facts of ONS gaming that cannot be avoided -
vehicles are a vital aspect of the gametype, and no other weapon in
the game is quite as good at dealing with vehicles than the
specifically-designed *Anti-Vehicle* Rocket Launcher.

In ONS I only bind two specific weapons to hotkeys, the rest I'll
cycle thru via the mousewheel. Those two weapons are the Link Gun and
the AVRiL. Anyone who doesn't see these two weapons are being the
primary weapons of consideration in ONS needs to look again.

I'd like to talk about the Chaingun for a moment. I was a big fan of
this weapon in 2K3 but I can't quite seem to get the feel for it in
2K4. About the only time I'll deliberately switch to it is if I'm out
of Avril or Lightning Gun ammo and need to harass a Raptor at long
range, a few pings off its hull might get the pilot to focus on me
instead of another target that I'd trying to protect.

Other than that, the weapon seems to fail me more often than not. I'm
fully prepared to admit that perhaps I'm failing *it* but I don't
understand why or how. The weapon doesn't do enough damage to
infantry or vehicles to merit its usage over any other weapon except
perhaps the default machinegun, and even then I might use it over the
chaingun against vehicles just for the grenades. The biggest
"feature" of the gun IMO is its insta-hit nature, but at the ranges
where insta-hit becomes a factor the weapon's spread makes it pretty
ineffective.

What am I missing?

Actually, I rarely fly the Raptor, but I do know that it's spawn times
have nothing to do with the spawn times of the Manta or Hellbender, so
what are you talking about? Yes, maybe at the start of a game all
vehicles leave at once, but after that the vehicles don't spawn all at
once.

I don't think the minigun is insta-hit. You can see the bullet trails as

We'd discussed this perhaps a month ago with my asking that very
question, the concensus seemed to be (from the code) that the weapon
really is insta-hit but the tracer rounds are shown to have a quick
but non-instantaneous flight.

I didn't see anyone follow up to my question about the appeal of this
weapon unless I missed some postings, anyone willing to field this
now?

Take a look at the code. It's a insta-hit weapon.

If the code is the same as the original UT, that's true. I haven't
inspected the code of UT2004 (yet), but I see no reason why they would
change that.
