Leaving one ram slot empty

Hi! I have this motherboard: Asus P5L-VM 1394 And my two yellow slots are filled with one pair of 1gb ram(total 2gb). And if it is safe to place a one more 2gb ram into one black slot and other black slot leave empty ?

i dont reccomend running different ram capacitys but it does work i suggest get a pair 2x4gb sorted forever

Yes you can use it like that but when you mix rams you can face problems thats why its recommend to but ram in pair because there is always a 50 % chance of ram not working together.

Pretty sure even if the 3rd stick works it'll throw your dual channel pair into single channel mode reducing overall performance.
