LED Case Fan Spins but No LED Light

This is weird, I bought a Core V71 case by Thermaltake and I love it so far, it has 3x200mm fans that are connected to a sort of a onboard fan controller with 4 options, 1) LED on 2) led off 3) high fan 4) low fan. The problem is that even on high fan they aren't getting the full power because when I connect these fans direct to the PSU or mobo, they blow much faster and cooler, so Im going to bypass the onboard controller and connect these straight to power but then the fans LED aren't lighting up? what gives, if i plug into the fan controller the LED is on, but on mobo or PSU using molex, they blow full speed but no LED, these are 3 pins btw, shouldn't they light up when plugged to any source, or did thermaltake do something special to these fans?? has anyone heard of something like this

I mean how else can you not connect these right? You plug them into the 3 pin hole, they work fine on fan controller but on the mobo and psu they spin full blast but don't light up, impossible to be a connection issue, thank you but anyone else?

the fans themselves have leds on them, they are Thermaltake Pure 20 Led, seen here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106225, when you say disconnect the fan power circuit and feed the fans and leds seperately, how would i do that, what kind of cable? you mean mess with the 3 pin cable the fan is attached to? im kind of trying to get what you mean

I gather the controller supplies less than 12V when maxed out. So you can't get max LED brightness or Fan speed?

The fans are rated at 12v, so you should be able to just run them from 12v molex to fan connectors.

I gather you just ground the third pin to get the LED on and off. If so, at low fan speed (low voltage) the led would only come on at low voltage/brightness too. But if you apply separate power to the third pin to turn on the lED then you should be able to do that with a rheostat to change the led brightness.

That'd mean ground permanently to one pin and seperate variable voltage sources to the other two pins. The controller only cranks out less than 12v max. You could make your own that would run up to 12v

Or try another fan controller.

Yes I believe that's exactly what's going on

I have done this, but lose the light

How do I go about doing this? do i have to open up the 3 pin cable?

I would have to take out a drive bay im trying to resolve this without replacing the stock fan controller, just want to bypass it

happen to me with my controller ... you need to go into Bios and set the fan to full, max ... then the control will take over and you can adjust .
if your setting in bios is standard then the fan control only get what ever the voltage send to controller because of your computer condition at that time ... most of the time it way low.

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem with my V71 200mm case fans. The fans work, but the LED ON/OFF switch does not work. The FAN HIGH and FAN LOW switch does work. I can't figure out why I'm not able to make the LED ON/OFF switch work.

Basically, I power the PC on and the FANs LEDs are dimly lit, and I am unable to switch them OFF/ON via the LED ON/OFF button located on the case. I think the issue you had/are having is probably the same root cause as mine. Thanks.

Those fans are made to work with the LED on/off function of the case if they are the ones supplied by the case. Them not lighting up when plugged directly into the PSU/MOBO without the controller can be an issue with the built in LED control that was meant to be controlled by the fan controller. In the manual of the case it says the controller's LED on/off function is only supposed to work with the supplied fans. I'm not entirely sure but this could be the problem, seeing as they are meant to be fully powered, and be able to have the LEDs turned off. They could be stuck in "off mode" when not connected to the controller.

Edit: Trey your problem is a bit different than his since he isn't using the controller all together. Maybe you should try reconnecting everything for lack of better options. Have you checked for damage like I suggested on your thread?

Yes I checked for damage as you suggested. Everything looks as it is supposed to be. I am going to take it apart today and make sure I have everything hooked up correctly. The root cause is probably something stupid. I will let you know what I find out.

Did you figure it out? Im having the issue. I even bought tt commander ft fan controller, all 3 stock fans led's barely light up, and 1 wont light up at all. BUT i did buy a 4th tt pure 20 200mm fan and that one's led's light is working fine. Im confused
