LED Keyboard lights turn off in Virtual machines

I have a CM Storm keyboard with LED lights. Whenever I click inside a virtual machine they turn off. This happens with virtualbox and vmware, and it doesn't matter if the vm is widows or linux. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I'm thinking the problem may lie with the keyboard.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Likely the VM doesn't have the required drivers to illuminate the keyboard.

I was thinking it might be a driver issue, but this keyboard never came with a driver and I can't seem to find one to download from the manufactures website.
