LED on power supply and motherboard blinks

So this is my first PC build and I am encountering problems right off the bat. When I plugged in my fully assembled motherboard into its power supply and turned it on, the power supply and the motherboard LED blinks around every 5 seconds. Even when I removed the ram, gpu, and graphics card, the blinking remains. When I plug in a monitor, nothing shows up; it just keeps blinking away. What should I do? The adapter brick I am using has a European AC plug, which I placed an outlet adapter over to fit into American outlets. Could this be the problem; because not enough power is supplied to the power supply? Or is it that I have a defective motherboard or power supply?

Wait you plugged an European power supply on an American outlet only using an outlet adaptor 😵 it's always written on the back of the product which power it needs. For USA it should be something like( 120v -50 hz ) and for us European we have (230v 60hz). If you really plugged a 230v device on a 120v outlet it's clearly not getting enough power, if you plug a 120v device like a toaster on a 230v outlet it would instantly burn :lol:

Check if you really have 230v written on your PSU if yes than you found your awnser, you have either the choice to send the PSU back or buy a Transformer from 120v to 230v it's bulky heavy unpractical.

My power brick says "Input: 110-240V AC 50/60Hz // Output: 12V DC 12.5A". This is the brick that caused the blinking in my nano psu and my motherboard. Today, I bought a typical laptop charging cable/brick from my local Best Buy, but my nano psu and my motherboard doesnt even light up with this one. This brick just says "Output Voltage: 19V, Output Power: 90W". I have no idea whats wrong still.

There is clearly something with your PSU, now im totally confused, are you talking about a Tower PC, you said before you assemble your very first PC what you mean with Nano psu or Laptop cable ??

If its a tower with a 90w PSU that wont cut 😀

Ok so I am trying to build a hackintosh with a H170N-WIFI motherboard (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5552#ov). The psu I bought was the Nano150 Fanless PSU by streacom (http://www.streacom.com/products/nano150-psu/), along with the adapter cable/brick to plug into an outlet. However, the cable had a European plug, so i also got a European to US adapter to plug into my outlet. When I tried with this psu, the motherboard and the psu failed to turn on.

My friend gave me another psu 200w he bought from amazon earlier (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N1OLP88/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), but it seemed really shady to me. However, when I plugged this psu (along with the streacom adapter cable/brick & the European to US outlet adapter) into the motherboard, the psu and the motherboard LED blink every 5 seconds.

I hope this clears up my situation. What do you think could be the problem?

Wait This is ridiculous you're trying to plug this tiny thing into a tower computer??

You need a real PSU something like that:

What are your exact specs?? Processor

Edit: you're getting blinking light because your processor is not powered, there is on the motherboard the big 24pin connector

Than the CPU connector

If you're only powering the motherboard with freaking 100w not surprising nothing is working :lol:

You need as well to power the hard drives eventually the graphic card and so on

but shouldnt it be enough power to simply power up the motherboard consistently? I have seen other pc builds using 150w psu similar to this one, and they worked fine. take this article as an example http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mini-itx-gaming-radeon-hd-7750,3369-9.html . the motherboard i am using is a mini itx form factor, so it should be using even less power than most as well. Im not sure if the psu is so much the problem now, but rather the motherboard itself.

It comes on what components you´re using. what are your specs ?

When I had all the components on the motherboard and tested it out, it was then when I first encountered the blinking problem. This is such a beast computer wasting a lot of power :lol: if you buy a "K" processor it means it´s made to be overcloocked. to overcloock the processor you would need a z170 Motherboard using a H170n is really useless for such processor, the power supply you have is clearly not providing enough reliable Juice for your processor and hardrives

Now really coming to your problem, this Streacon components are not good enough for your build, using this H170 is a waste for your processor, you probably can still send back the Motherboard case and some components back, I understand you wan´t a quiet small build, but with components that big you need to have some fans.

I don´t know your usage but adding a graphiccard could be a nice addon, it comes to you and if it´s supported.

The case is pretty and really small, in case you still find loud buy some Noctua fans they´re dead silent. the Bitfenix have toons of pretty colors :lol: or the Cooler Master Elite 130 is as well a nice case but only in black.

Off course the only really important thing here is the case and PSU that you desperately need. You could as well keep the h170 motherboard bit send the processor back and get a 6700 without "K" could save you some good money
