I have an MOLEX to 4pin connector , i was wondering if i can connect my RGB 4Pin LED directly into the extension and power the molex from the PSU? I have a corsair RM650x PSU.

The LED strips have a stick on surface at the back of the strip. Question is what adapter should i buy to power it from inside the case , without having to connect it to the mains , through the 12v adapter given. also this one has an RGB controller and infrared sesor to change colours.

mine is also a 12v rgb with the sensor

i got an old molex male to molex female passthrough removed the female end

this leaves a molex that plugs into female molex from the psu but has 4 wires still on it

you take off 1 black and the red leaving you with just the yellow and the black wire next to it

then off ebay i got the pin that goes into the sensor it comes with 2 screws on it you put the wires in each tighten screws job done

leaves you with a molex that plugs into molex from the psu with the right connection on the other end for the sensor

sounds more complicated than it is

and cost around £3 for the bits needed

Well, the problem was , most people who described this connection were in 2011 , when coloured cables and Molex connectors were on the PSU! Thanks for the pointer .

still plenty new psus come with the coloured cables or are sleeved black up to the last inch or so then you see the colours after the heatshrink

my corsair psu also has all black cables--but the molex pass through i used had the colours--most of those passthroughs are coloured wires and are the sort of thing people are likely to have lying in a box or drawer to use

I would never suggest those PSU's to anyone, need a GOLD or PLATINUM efficiency PSU , its the most important component of the entire sysytem! Yeah the converters bought online are all colored cables. Thanks alot for your help , it was a great conversation , could we continue this elsewhere about other topics?
