Hey guys, I know this is a bit of an old computer, but I've already installed 8GB of ram (PC2-6400 800mhz), and a Samsung Evo SSD. I'm having some difficulty finding the correct CPU compatibility with this board however. I've also recently installed Windows 10 Professional clean.

The HP TouchSmart actually came released in 2 different motherboards, the Eve (older generation only supporting 4GB Max of Ram) and the Maureen motherboard (supports up to 8GB). I have the Maureen motherboard. This board came originally equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 core 2.0 Ghz Processor, and I'd like to upgrade this.

I found the specifications of the motherboard here:
http://

According to the website it lists the following:

Socket type: 478P
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:

Core 2 Duo Txxx (Penryn)
Core 2 Duo Pxxx (Penryn)

I looked up all the Penryn Core 2 Duo Processors, and thought I landed on the correct one, a P8800 2.66 GHz PGA 478 (SLGLR), so I made the purchase. However, after installing the processor, I could not get get the computer to power on appropriately or even get the screen to come on.

Interestingly enough - Windows 10 reports that the motherboard is actually an "eve" model, with a 965 Chipset however, I know this to be untrue by both the color of the motherboard, and the fact that it already has 8GB of ram installed in it. It may be a driver issue, but obviously, before the O/S loads, the BIOS should at least register the CPU. The BIOS is version 5.01 and it seems the latest is 5.10 but contains nothing of relevancy to adding functionality for more CPUs...

I had seen "some threads" alluding to the fact that a Core 2 Duo quad core processor may work in the motherboard as well, but before I go purchasing another CPU, I'd like to make sure I get the correct one.

I realize there are the "laws of diminishing returns" but as it's legacy, prices on the CPUs are generally cheap, and I just want to get the best possible CPU I can that works with the board. I have been unsuccessful thus far in getting solid information on a CPU that for sure will work.

Help! :)

There is no updated BIOS to download. I can not find one. It's currently at 5.01, I can't find a way to update it any further or anything posted with a more recent BIOS.
