First of all, I read the sticky about scams and want to say I am not a scammer.

Now here is my thing. I am running a computer I made with Windows 7 OEM. If I built another computer tomorrow or whenever, and bought windows 7 upgrade, could I use that code with the OEM disc I already have for the equivalent of retail? Would I be able to transfer that to a different computer is what I want to know basically. Thanks!

Solution

Yes, if u would not use that first activated PC. Other than that u would need XP or Vista with valid licence.

Or get Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM $99.99

So basically, if I sold my computer, than I would either need full retail, or OEM? I think I've got what you are saying.

Thanks, I wish Microsoft didn't make EULA's and licensing so confusing.

If u would sold your PC with the valid licence, than u would still need to buy...

If u keep the licence, than u can use the upgrade and have "retail licence" PC.

I am sure, that many people share exactly same opinion : )

It is not that complicated. One full copy of windows per machine. Buy retail if you want MS support for the product (LOL), and buy OEM if you can provide your own support.
Always buy 64bit unless there is a specific reason not to, and buy home edition unless you are putting the computer on a domain.

Also, I would keep the copy of win7 and just install it on the new machine. If it is your computer, and you remove it from the old machine, MS is usually more than willing to let you transfer the license. If they will not let you then you will have to buy the full OEM version (not upgrade version) for the new machine because the original license technically belongs to the old computer.
