Saving time depends on a lot of things I guess:
1. Harddrive fragmentation. Defragment the drive using the built in
defragmenter in WinXP or a third party application.
2. Other processes running in the backround. Maybe you have an
antivirus application running real-time file scan? Maybe you should
consider disabling it temporarily when playing. On own risk, of
course.
🙂 Stop unused WinXP services in Computer
Administration/Services before playing.
3. Naturally, general machine specs: CPU, RAM, harddrive type
(ATA/SATA/SCSII), free space on harddrive. The more of everything, the
merrier, but that's old news now a days..
🙂
On my 3GB P4 with 2 giga RAM and nice and quick SATA harddrive saving
even most complex lots takes 15-20 secs. max. On my wife's old machine
it takes a couple of minutes. Sorry, didn't mean to brag.
🙂
...and last but not least:
4. Size of the lot and number of objects on it!
As an example: I have a temp lot with just a wall with a telephone
hanging on it. Nothing else. I use it for introducing new sims to the
neibourghood. Saving this lot takes half a second!
