Lenovo c40-05 as Monitor

I have the Lenovo c40-05 with the HDMI input. I am trying to use this as a monitor for a desktop but have been unable to get a signal from the tower. The cord works and the input works as I am able to get the signal from a laptop. Does anyone have experience using the c40-5 as a monitor for an external tower?

It shouldn't be any different for the tower vs. the laptop.

I'm assuming the tower outputs to a regular monitor?

That is correct, the tower has been run through HDMI on a regular monitor in the past.
