I'm wondering if anyone can please help me on this!

I bought this Desktop computer over a year ago, and I set up my home theatre surround via HDMI. It's a Samsung 5.1 system, with the HDMIs channeling through our TV. It was working like a charm up until a week ago we noticed we weren't getting any windows updates and Lenovo had stopped their own updates 60days ago! We wanted to upgrade to 8.1 but because we didn't have the latest updates, we couldn't upgrade! We also noticed we had a virus problem and various other little gremlins in the system, and when we went to use the Recovery OneKey Lenovo program, it was corrupted by the virus!! So I did a built - in windows 8 reset, which stripped the whole computer and as i came to doing the windows updates, they were failing to install or configure! So I researched into the problem and found it to be caused by one of Lenovos "Bloatwares" called Nalpeirion Licensing Service. I disabled that and was able to make updates and then upgrade to 8.1. Unfortunately when we upgraded, our 5.1 surround was no longer working, but i also hadn't checked after the reset of windows 8 if it was working or not then. But we thought it was 8.1 causing it, so we stripped again and downgraded back to the windows 8, only to find it was still not working! The audio manager is out of date, and i've updated the drivers to various versions, with no luck and no change of the actual audio manager! The audio manager (which is Lenovos) is supporting analogue only with no other choices, yet we're running a computer capable of hdmi and 7.1! so it can't not be compatible! It was working but now it's not! Its showing that there is sound playing in the "Playback devices" but nothing is actualy coming out! I've set it to stereo (on the tv part) where it will play through the two front side speakers, the subwoofer and that's it! there's nothing coming out the other 2 speakers plus Center speaker. Also what's weird is, when i go onto the main sound manager, and it's set to stereo, it's not even playing the "working" speakers on a test! I have no clue why this has happened, but any help would be appreciated. It was working fine up until i stripped the system and now it's as if the audio manager is out of date where it's not supporting HDMI Audio.
