Hi. I have a Lenovo Ideacentre 310S 08IGM that has started to misbehave. A few days ago it booted to the welcome screen and froze for a few moments, then it shutdown. Since then it power cycles once every time I power it on. After the single power cycle, it boots normally and so far, behaves normally. I have tried replacing the RAM, clearing the CMOS, replacing the CMOS battery, replacing the AC adapter and disconnecting the HDD and DVDRW. No change, still power cycling.
Anyone got any ideas why?

Thanks for any useful advice.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. It's one of Lenovo's laptop-in-a-mini-tower type of PCs. It uses an AC adapter for power. I've tried a spare one that I have and also a universal AC adapter. Same issue.
I have ordered another RAM module from Crucial to see if that fixes the issue. (The one I tried from my laptop didn't work.)

Hi, thanks for your thought's on this. I installed the new RAM earlier today. The power cycle has stopped. Looks like it was a dodgy stick of RAM after all. Thanks again for the help and advice nonetheless.

Interesting....

For future reference:

After the next successful boot look in Reliability History or Event Viewer.

Either one or both may be capturing some error code, warning, or even an informational event that you can associate with the power cycles.

Reliability History uses a time line format that can be very revealing.

Some pattern of error codes/warnings that started "a few days ago" and then ended with the new RAM.

As stated above the symptoms do not suggest a RAM problem - keep an eye on things.

And, as you always should be doing, ensure that all important data is backed up at least 2 x to locations off of the Lenovo. Verify that the backups are recoverable and readable.

Just in case....
