Made this thread regarding video card upgrade with same PC link

Now I,m wanting to add usb3 ports but my only option right now is through regular PCI slot thanks to radeon r5 graphics card that is occupying 2 slots thus blocking the mini pci slot. Cheapest option that I can see is this startech 2 port usb3 pci card link. So now I'm thinking that why not spend $20-30 more and just replace with newer micro atx with usb3 MB for just few more bucks like this Asus MB link and I'll have a more future proof pc and get the full benefits of usb3 speed. And looking at sold m91p MB in ebay link it's a no brainer.

So my question Is it possible to replace the MB on m91p SFF i5 2400 with any standard micro atx LGA1155 socket MB and just reuse everything or do I need a new case for a new motherboard? I kinda like this sff case as it fit behind my tv stand and can't find a good case replacement with same footprint. Feel free to throw a better affordable MB as I just randomly picked an lga 1155 MB from amazon.

I'm also thinking of adding ssd hd, since there is not much space would it be ok for the ssd hd to just freely sit in a free space in the case with no brakcet holding it? I figured it might be ok since the PC will not be tossed around often and ssd can take more abuse than normal hd.

As of now I use it as a HTPC\DVR, and steambox playing sports game mainly.

I have an M91p in the back room. I'll crack it open and get back to you.

Standard ATX connector, might have to re-wire the front panel connector, and they used an odd connector for the speaker. Other then that it is all standard.

Thanks again for checking that out. Which functionality do you think will need rewiring in the front panel? As long as I can wire the front usb that's all I need in front.

Looking at this Asus P8B75-M/CSM LGA 1155 Intel B75 Any other MB recommendation?

They built their own connector, your new motherboard will likely have a different layout. Just going to have to take the individual pins out and plug them in where they need to go on the new board. Not that difficult, but it can be annoying.

.Thanks for the help again. so Got the asus b75 mobo in the case, microATX is a little short missing 2 screw but it seems to fit fine.

Like you mentioned Lenovo connectors are giving he hard time finishing this swap.

The Lenovo usb2 connectors have an extra column. Here's a photo of it. The last column with blank pin is empty. Do I just align it with the available pins. How do I verify which goes on top/bottom? Here's photo of usb pin out.

I managed to remove the pins from the connector PHOTO to rewire it but I noticed the Lenovo connectors also have extra column and there would be no space to move the rewired empty column slots to the side. Is there a generic connector I can buy online where I can plug the pins and plug into the mobo.? I only need the front panel connector. Looks like they spliced the reset and power function PHOTO. But I see in this Power pinout PHOTO that reset and power button has separate pins. Would that be a problem if I just plug it into the Power and ground? Also white would be ground right?

Yes, most common front panels are colored with white grounds.

On the USB that extra pin appears to be empty. Looks like they did it only to make it proprietary. I have never needed to buy one, but I would assume you could find 10-pin connectors like that from Mouser, Newark, and other electronic parts suppliers. (I would probably just wrap each pin in electrical tape, plug them in, and wrap all of them together when finished)

The power and reset can share a ground, so that is no big deal. Just have to put the right wires on the right pins.
