Hi,

I want to add 2 GB, so I have 4 GB RAM. Speccy says: 2,00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 531MHz (7-7-7-20). So I searched the net, but did not find it. Here is what "wanderer11" wrote, answering a post of "PC996" in this forum:
"I think you mean 1066 MHz (533*2=1066). Are you looking at replacing the existing set or adding to it? Knowing your mobo, cpu, and what exactly you are looking for would help a lot."

That RAM has 533, not 531MHz. Does that apply in my case, too? I just called the dealer, he said that that RAM is a rarity and therefore costly. I was surprised, because I assumed, it would be a simple task to get it.
What RAM exactly to buy?

Thanks a lot for your help and suggestions!

Your Lenovo T500 supports max 8 GB (2 x 4 GB). Memory type supported is DDR3 PC3-8500 1066 MHz SODIMM (Sometimes referred as 533 MHz). This is not a rare memory.

Note: 533 MHz also a term to express the DDR2 PC24200 533 MHz memory type.

So, just see if the terms has one of these 'DDR3' or 'PC3-8500'. Then you're good to buy anywhere.

I mentioned 531 MHz instead 533...does that matter? Does it affect the function, if not, why? Thanks!
PS: Is it ok to add 4 GB, having 6 GB?

531 MHz is the same as 533 MHz. It doesn't matter. It won't affect the function.
And it is okay just as adding a pair. Works better in pairs - slight performance increase.

Went to a shop, got RAM, instead 60 Euros, I paid 15 €! I was not sure, if that RAM would be the right one, because the info on the package was enigmatic, the clerk asked other clerks...I inserted RAM, started the machine and a performance test. Index before 5.5, now 5.8. RAM correctly displayed by taskmanager. Even an unexperienced user like me can do that..of course with help of Toms!

Glad to hear that. Enjoy!
