mcinator: Here's an answer from another source.
Source: You can install an i7 but it must be a Sandy Bridge CPU (i7-2XXXM) to work with the chipset. You should use one that was supported initially by the BIOS: (i7-2620M, i7-2630QM, i7-2670QM, i7-2720QM, i7-2760QM, i7-2820QM, i7-2860QM, i7-2920XM or i7-2960QM)
mcinator: Most boards without processors being soldered in can be upgraded but a person must be cautious as to which one will work. I just upgraded my Toshiba Satellite laptop from an i3 to an i7. The only trick is to get the correct socket and know whether you can put a dual or quad core into the board as a replacement processor. In my case I had to stay with a dual core but still I have significant better performance.
