Hello!
I just bought an old Lenovo ThinkCentre M58P, which has the problem that the CPU fan is always running at 100% even when the processor is at low temps
(low: 36-40 degrees according to the CPU temperature monitor in AIDA64).
AIDA64 shows that the CPU fan is constantly running at about 4096 RPM regardless of the CPU load.
Here is what I have tried:
1. Checked the BIOS: there is no fan-related settings in there (BIOS is from 2012), so no luck.
2. Updated drivers according to Lenovos "Auto Update" from the website, using the "Lenovo Service Bridge" to scan for drivers.
3. Tested with an external software (FanControl, https://getfancontrol.com/). It did not detected the fan.
4. Tried changing the power options in Lenovo Power Options to "Power saving", the fan did not wind down.
5. Visually inspected that the fan cable seems to be connected OK.
6. Visually inspected and unplugged + replugged the temperature probe, see attached images.
7. Visually inspected the fan for dust, the dust is minimal, or at least not enough to consider fan performance.
8. Checked Lenovo Vantage, but the computer is not compatible with Vantage.
9. Installed Windows 7 (computer originally came with Windows 10). Problem still persists.
Below are some images that shows the probe connector and the fan.
