Now, this is a pretty specific question.
I just wondered if anyone happened to know this.

I picked up an X230.
It has a known screen issue.

On looking, the connecting cable is in a complete state.
So, happy to get another one.

I see that it is FRU 04W1679

Now, mine is: 50.4KH04.001 Rev.A01
what I have seen coming up (for example) https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/...h Products&searchType=6&keyWordSearch=r9wg2ww
is 50.4KH04.021 Rev.B01

I am happy to get the same as the one already in mine if nobody knows this.

BUT I was wondering if it is possible to find out if
50.4KH04.021 is an upgraded version of
50.4KH04.001. Perhaps it is longer lasting or better in some other way.

Or if it is, perhaps, for a different screen.

I have tried hunting around but have not got anywhere so I thought i would ask on here in case somebody happens to know.

Thanks

Possibly a revision to support other screens, doesn't always mean it's "upgraded" per se. As long as the pinout and specs for it are the same, you should be fine using the other cable, but I would err on the safe side of things by getting an identical replacement, as even a cable that's more capable of supporting other screens won't change the display quality by itself.

Possibly a revision to support other screens,
Ah, yes, I see.
Good point.
I was hoping it might be more durable.

I don't know what I am looking at with specs etc so, yes, I think I will do as you suggest and go with like for like.

It was just on the off chance it was a well known upgrade type thing.
Thanks for your input.

I think an upgrade to a cable would likely result in having to get a completely different screen (e.g. a different pinout or going from an LVDS to an eDP cable). As far as I can tell, the cables you listed look identical, besides maybe their length.

Happy hunting/replacing. :)

OK, thanks.
I have even seen both numbers even in the same advert.
The X230 does havve different screens though, you are right.
One would hope that the cable would work with both.
But, not 100% is it?
Going with the like for like.
