Hi guys, hope you can help me with this. I just got a second hand gaming laptop Lenovo Y50. It's really great and powerful, I am more than happy with everything but not the video issue.

What happens is that when I play AVI MP4 or MKV files, no matter HD or not there is this lag , sometimes appears more frequently sometimes it doesn't at all. I find it really weird, I updated my drivers, the settings are on high performance, I am plugged in to the mains. I just don't know anymore what to try? Could it be hybrid HDD? Or slow Intel graphics?

P.S.
If you try googling and find similar thread in lenovo community don't bother, it was me posting it. The issue after setting Intel graphics to high perf still persists.

Solution
Please mention the Hard Drive , i suspect the HDD is faulty.

Run Command prompt as admin and type the following

sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files. It'll take some time , be patient.

okay so it finished and says :

''Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. ''

I looked at the log file but not sure what where means 🙁

Alright , so the HDD has some issues. I think thats the reason you're facing the lag issue. You can also try to fix the HDD by separately scanning every partition.

Also install speedfan , go to S M A R T tab , select your HDD, it will show your HDD fitness and performance right away.

Follow this thread and keep me posted.

Did what it said in the link you have given and after scanning it said that no errors were found.

Installed speedfan. Started it, it starts scanning something and goes (Not Responding). Tried running as Admin and still the same :/

Ok, played files and at the moment seems to be okay, but it was doing that on and off so can't be 100 % sure it's fixed. I will need couple of days to see if it doesn't happen again. Will also see how it runs on my SSD in case the problem comes back.

Thank you a lot. I will keep you posted.

Alright, np.

after all it was HDD fault. I had to RMA laptop and after a week they sent me a laptop with new HDD fitted in which wasn't that much better. So I just put my SSD in it and never looked back! The default HDDs they put in Lenovo gaming laptops aren't good at all!
