Question Lenovo y520 Tower cpu-upgrade?

Just wondering how I could get info about whether my sons Lenovo Y520 Tower with an i3 7100 cpu is possible to upgrade to a four core processor like the i5 7600? On the Lenovo webpage it says the i5 7400 is a possibility, but that's hardly considered an upgrade at all... The motherboard is a Lenovo 36d9.

That's not a real upgrade.
The I3-7100 is a hyperthreaded 2 dual core; it is in essence, a pseudo quad core. The move to an I5-7600 would hardly be noticeable.

7100 to 7600 = 2% increase in single core, 49% multi-thread
7100 to 7700 = 5% single core, 85% multi

4 threads is already pretty limited these days, and won't last you as long as the 4 extra on the 7700.
