Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a Lenovo Legion Y540, but I find myself in a bit of a pickle. I can choose between the 15" and 17" model variants since they both cost the same where I live (South Africa)…but I have an issue I need your advice for :

I currently have a 15.6" laptop, and my sub-par eyesight compared with some neck strain makes me want a bigger screen. But the issue is, the Y540 17" has cooling issues, and the fans make 50 Db noise when gaming. The 15.6" runs cooler overall, and runs at 42 Db when gaming.

Is the noise and heat problem worth it for the bigger screen?

Hi,

I've heard that the Y540-17IRH has slightly better cooling than Y540-15IRH ... and also was thinking on these two models as well...

Can someone advise ?

Thanks !

I did some searching and then ordered the 15IRH. The 17IRH actually has worse cooling, because the fans are further away from the CPU/GPU. It's just a 15IRH build that's stretched, more hollow and heavier

In my opinion, that seemingly small amount of size increase does wonders for visibility.
