Hi everyone. Idk if im postimg this in the rigjt topic. Yesterday i got my new pc lenovo ideacentre y720 cube, the specs are on this site

https://www.elgiganten.se/product/datorer-tillbehor/stationar-dator/LE90H2000QMW/lenovo-ideacentre-y720-cube-stationar-dator-gaming

Its a swedish site, if you cant see it its basically mini itx motherboard, i5 7400 cpu with a gtx 1070 8g, and 8gb ram. What i want to upgrade is only ram to 16 and cpu to some i7. I know very little about pc building so i would hope someone could guide me if it possible to do with the system i have or if i need to replace other things also (power supply, motherboard)

The reason for this is sudden stuttering in gw2 zergs. I think im getting bottlenecked here or something. Please help!!

First, here is the hardware manual for this computer

It is possible that the i5-7400 is bottlenecking the 1070 but it shouldn't happen a lot. There could be other reasons for the stuttering.

Page 58 shows that the i7-7700 is compatible and that would be my choice anyways as it has a 65W TDP which matches the TDP of the i5-7400. It also shows on page 58 that it comes with either a very small 280W PSU or a 450W PSU. I would hope like crazy that you have the 450W, a GTX 1070 on a 280W would be insane. You can look at the label on the PSU to see.

Upgrading the RAM is a little more problematic. You have a two slot motherboard which supports up to 2x16GB RAM. And from your vendor website it appears that you have a 1x8GB DDR4 2400MHz stick, Lenovo PN 01AG805. So your challenge is to either match the existing RAM or purchase all new RAM. Crucial is showing higher speeds are compatible so that is an option.

If you go with all new RAM this is what I would get

Thank you so so much for taking your time to help me, it is really heart warming to see that you even linked everything and took your time, i didn't even think i'd get a reply from someone.
No worries, i do have to 450w! I cannot access the crucial link i'm afraid. And wow that is such good news to hear that i can get the i7-7700!
-So if i understand this correctly, with my motherboard, i can get the i7-7700, my PSU is 450W which will suffice, no "extra" upgrades needed, correct? I hope this is possible. In my manual it only said how to remove the HDD and ram (i have 1tb and 8gb ram) so i was getting worried that those were the only options.

Thank you so much for helping once again, i cannot describe how grateful i am.

EDIT: Could my motherboard be the problem? Not using my gears full potential? I heard that could happen. Btw I have 7gb ram usage when in guild wars 2, and my CPU is at 80-90% and can spike to a 100% at some moments, the temperature is fine. This game feels really processor heavy, Would the i7-7700 make a huge improvement?

Based on your reply regarding CPU and RAM usage I strongly believe that the 7400 is your issue. I would not be starting with a motherboard issue as the root cause for your stuttering, it is not really indicated here. Also with 7GB of 8GB being used I would be adding more RAM. We can find a match if you don't want to get all new. The 450W should be enough, no upgrade needed there.

In looking at the web seems Guild Wars 2 is a very CPU intensive game and is poorly optimized. The i7-7700 will have faster single core speeds and will provide more threads should they be needed.

Using CAM, i found out a little more about my pc!

RAM: Samsung 8gb (1x8GB) DDR4, 2394 MHz

MOTHERBOARD: Lenovo 36D5, Kaby Lake, Sourthbridge H170.
With BIOS version: 036KT15A

CPU: i5-7400, Kaby Lake, 3ghz, Socket 1151 LGA

So what i need is another samsung 8gb or? Also, could i get the i7 7700k instead? i think it supports my motherboard but im not sure, i checked the southbridge number.
Thanks!

Did you end up changing cpu and did it work? Did you change the cpu cooler?

I am almost 100% sure i7 7700k is compatible with lenovo y720 BUT, for a cheaper price and disregarding all the heat issues that comes with the i7 7700k (and the cube already has major heat issues) i decided to order i7 7700. Installing it tomorrow. For that small of a performance gap, it was worth it. You can't overclock with our motherboard, which pretty much made i7 7700k useless in my eyes.

Dear y720 ideacentre users, i7 7700 it is, case closed. Wanna get i7 7700k? replace fan, cpu ofc, and motherboard. Good luck.
