when i try to connect my hd screen through hdmi nothing happens am i missing somethings

you need to select output to external display. Probably a "hotkey" setup on the keyboard for activating/switching to that using the FN key.

are the Lenovo drivers install on the laptop? typically some of those buttons don't work without the hooks that some of their "special" software creates when it is install on the machine.

I would pull up the manual on that Lenovo laptop, make sure you have whatever software they sell the laptops with, and go from there. They probably have a step by step instruction somewhere.

only some of the drivers the cd had windows 8.1 drivers i installed 7 i found some drivers on lenovo website no idea how to get the rest

Did you change monitor setting on laptop from single to multiple monitor?

Right click on the screen and hit display setting,,if you run win 10 and then click detect!
