Less space on hard disk after re-installing windows xp

I just re-installed windows xp onto my pc... and all my old files are gone, so I expected there to be alot of space, but instead i find that I only have 30 Gigs of space left.. it's a 149 gig hard drive... what do I do? If my files are still there, where will i find it?
