So, my internet's always been kind of crappy, but I just built a high end pc and would like some decent download speeds along with it. My provider is my local telecom company (westriv.com) I also get phone with this company so, i don't think changing isps is an option. The website says up to 1mb upload speeds (which is fine for me) and up to 15mb download speeds (also fine) but i very RARELY ever get up to 1mb download speeds. I tested it earlier and it said downloads of 5mb (which iv'e never gotten) But I just tested it again and here are the stats: DOWNLOAD: 0.81MBPS UPLOAD: 0.89MBPS LATENCY: 5MS JITTER: 55MS
I use the speed tester on the isp's website, and it uses ookla, so it's the same as speedtest.net (I've tested both of them and they show very similar results) I don't understand why my upload is actually slightly higher than my download speed. I'm using a wired connection. I do live about 3-4 miles from my isp and it is a connection that comes through the phone line, is the reason for this just the length of the cable and it loses most of it's speed along the way? If anyone could help me get my connection speeds up that would be really great
because I really don't like buying a game on steam and then having to wait a few hours to a day to play it -_-
