Heres the thing. My current PC is from, believe it or not- 2007.
Yes, im rocking a core duo e2180 2 ghz with an ancient motherboard. I thought that perhaps after a decade, it might be time for an update.

Obviously, everything will have to change, only the PSU and GPU radeon 7770 1gb ddr5 will stay.

My budget is $400

Im not really an avid gamer and im also not concerned about the gpu bottleneck. All I want is retribution for the 10 years a slave, I want the best value for money rig.

I need CPU, MB, RAM 8GB, SSD 120GB

Solution
I need to know if you have to have a microATX motherboard or standard ATX.

The APU Route.
CPU/GPU side are both a upgrade over what you have.

A mini or micro ITX is essential for me. Im not really impressed with the processor. I think I will have to ditch the ssd for a better cpu.

Is AMD really the best option? Im a bit reluctant knowing how games and programs are not as optimized for them compared to intel.

What psu do you have since that quite important. If it's a bad one it could destroy your new system.

The i5-8500 has a base clock of 2.8GHz, but it has a nice turbo boost to 4.0GHz.

I would get the 4 core i3 8100.
This would be the performance difference.

gaming wise the i3 8100 is superior

if you can fit in a i5 8400 then the gap becomes very wide

those ryzen's are entry level, the i5 8400 is upper tier
