I help me elderly neighbor with all her tech needs, and I have a question for the community. She is running Windows 7, and has a Lexmark s305 Impact printer - it is hooked directly into the the tower via USB cable so no wi-fi involved. Last week it stopped printing, meaning it goes through all the motions just fine, yet there is no actual printed text on the paper. Is it the actual inkjets not working? I have tried as many trouble shooting tips as I can, yet still the same result - Can anyone offer some advice, trouble shooting tips, etc. to get this to print properly again - Thanks!

Solution
If any ink printer is not used at least every 3 or 4 days to print a small graphic which uses each of the colours, the old ink stays in the printhead too long and dries to a mushy paste which blocks the nozzles in the printhead. This is why even fitting new cartridges doesn't help because the new ink cannot get through to the paper.

Remove the printhead (that's the cradle into which you push all the cartridges) and soak it overnight in hand-hot soapy water.
Next day, rinse it thoroughly in cold water and leave to completely dry before putting it back into the printer.
