In trying to reinstall the drivers for this printer/scanner I somehow lost the
model in the install printer wizard and can't get past that point in the
installation. ( I have XP home) How can I proceed

If you are using XP, during the setup process, it might say that the driver is not approved, Lexmark say just to press the Continue button, and complete installation.

You can download the drivers for the X73 at:

You will need to first use the Cleaner utility to remove the partial installation of the driver for this:
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:94:0:0&emeaframe=&fileID=1236

Then you can use the driver installation program at:
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:94:0:0&emeaframe=&searchMethod=StandardSearch&category=Driver
