Had a recent chat with LG Support but they referenced the wrong product in their answer so I'm starting over here because I figure there are better techies here than on a company support chat.

I have a 13Z990-A.AAS5U1 which is an LG 13" with an Intel 8265u. There's 4GB soldered to the motherboard and one slot which currently has a 4GB DIMM in it for a total of 8GB. I'd like to upgrade the RAM as that's cheap but here's the question:

The user manual for this product declares the maximum RAM to be 16GB but, of course, with 4GB on the mobo and a 16GB in the slot, that would make 20GB. So, if I do such an upgrade, would only the first 16GB be recognized (with 8GB as dual-channel) -or- would this upgrade simply not work at all (ie, not boot or not show 16GB total)?

I remember (from my Mac days), when adding more RAM than the Mac would recognize just resulted in the Mac seeing only the max it could (ie, two 4GB modules in a machine that would only recognize 6GB resulted in 6GB with the other 2GB ignored).

Edit: I also remember sometimes Apple would only test smaller RAM modules (as the larger ones hadn't yet been released) so it wasn't unusual to see a Mac spec sheet showing 16GB max RAM but when the 16GB modules were released, the Mac had no trouble with two 16GB modules for a total of 32GB. But this is an LG and I just don't know.

Thanks,
Barry
