Question LG 24GM77 is detected as generic monitor, can't install drivers

I am connecting my monitor to laptop via HDMI cable, its getting detected as generic in device manager.
I tried to install those drivers:
https://www.lg.com/us/support/softw...-B.AUS&category=CT10000030&subcategory=OTHERS

Program asks me to "Select the display adapter on which you want to install the driver" but the list is empty.

I don't mind having 60hz but for gaming I would like to have 120hz-144hz.
How can I fix this issue?

You shouldn't need the drivers to enable faster speed. It should just be a setting on monitor to run that and then set windows to 144 in display options.

may need to use Nvidia control panel

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What version of Windows 10 are you working with? As for your drivers for the monitor, you can try going into Device Manager>Monitor>Update Driver>locate driver on your driver, using the .cat file in the latest driver folder. You can also try running the executable(setup) in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

I was able to install drivers thanks to your method but 144hz option is still not visible in windows and nvidia control panel. :(

max monitor should be able to do on HDMI is 120 - https://forums.overclockers.com.au/threads/lg-24gm77-not-showing-144hz-option.1278445/

tried making a custom resolution and refresh rate in windows?

I can confirm it does indeed output at 144hz to an external screen. I'm currently using a USB-C dock that I bought from amazon that has an HDMI port and it is running at 144hz (Unfortunately the dock is not able to provide enough power through USB-C for this laptop, so you still need to use your PSU)
