LG 24MP58VQ minimizing programs problem

Just got a new monitor (brand/model in title), and whenever I open a program that isn't in 1920x1080, it minimizes/switches off the program and shows a red border on my screen.
This is incredibly annoying as I can't change the resolution to prevent this when I cannot even access the game's options to do so (as it minimizes the program when I open it).

Please answer quickly..

Having the exact same problem with an LG 24MP48HQ-P. I'd say the border's color is magenta, or pinkish, the color of the OnScreen Control.

You can run the game in windowed mode then change the resolution, but this won't help with older games. Now I unable to play old games - that is a major pain for me. Everything worked well with my old CRT, and now this stupid monitor drops to the desktop every time an application tries to change the resolution. For a moment I see pink borders (its size depends on the resolution of the application) then the borders shows up at the edge of the desktop (means that the OnScreen Control reverted to the desktop's resolution).

However, the OnScreen Control lets you add applications to the "custom mode" which magically fixes the issue. The only problem is that the OnScreen Control is stupid and lists only a small amount of your installed applications, so I'm still having problem with a lot of cool old games. :-(

i get the same problem and couldnt fig out why my games kept shrinking to desktop till i closed onscreen control and then all my games worked. wish there was a way i didnt have to close it but if all else fails for you guys just close it.
