I just bought this LG 43SQ700S monitor. I have two computers. I use a KVM that only switches HDMI and a USB for each PC. I used it with my previous LG monitor. Since the HDMI is sending both video and audio, it sends the audio to the monitor. Then I plug the speakers into the miniplug port on the monitor and the monitor splits the audio from the video of the HDMI port and sends the audio out the external speakers.

This new monitor, it's not working. On the back of the monitor, next to the service port, there is a 3.5mm jack but the manual doesn't mention it at all. Also, on the back of the monitor, there's no label for the outlet. I've plugged my speakers into it. The audio still continues to go through the monitor's built-in speakers. I've gone through the monitor settings for the audio. I've tried plugging in the HDMI in both the ARC and non ARC port. Right now it's in the non-ARC port. But, the only option is to either have the audio go to the TV or to things like Bluetooth speakers and other accessories. So, I'm assuming the TV option is the right option.

I'm assuming the monitor is not defective. Highly doubt it. Maybe that 3.5mm port on the back, since it's not labeled on the back and it's not mentioned in the manual, maybe it's not an audio port. Maybe it's part of the service port or some other function. idk. But, if that's the case, what's the right way to hook up PC speakers? I have a KVM for two PCs, so I can't just plug the speakers into the PC, because I'd have to manually move the wire between the two computers. Crawling behind my desk everytime I switch between the two computers will get old after a while since once is a tower desktop PC.

So, I had my speakers plugged into it. Didn't work. But, I just left them plugged in. All the sudden, it's the middle of the night. My wife is sleeping next to me. I decide to lock my computer to go to bed. As soon as I did that, the speakers started making a very loud awful sound. So, I don't know why locking my PC caused that port to generate a really annoying loud sound. So, still don't know what the point of the port is. Assuming it's not an audio port. It's not labeled and not mentioned in the manual. But, it's not just a blank port that does nothing from that little experiment.

well, for now, I gave up. disconnected the speakers and stored them away. Less clutter on my desk. I guess the sound from the monitor is decent. I'm not a gamer or anything. so, as long as I can hear whatever sound is playing, it's good enough. doesn't need to be THX theater sound. (the speakers I had were just logitech 2.1 speakers.... nothing amazing.)
