LG 4K monitor HDMI issue.

I just bought a LG 27UK650 4k 60Hz monitor and tried hooking it up with my laptop(Samsung NP550P5C-S04IN) via a HDMI cable provided. I tried extending and duplicating the display to project the display on to the LG monitor but all in vain.

Do 4K monitors require Display port to display things? Or am I doing something colossally wrong here?

For your laptop, make sure you're on the latest BIOS update and that your GPU drivers are the latest. Try another HDMI cable. This might also be worth a read. Are you working with the cable that came bundled with the tele?

Yes the one that came with the monitor. I think my laptop's HDMI is outdated compared to my monitor. Dunno for sure though
