so, my dad kept borrowing my mom's WD Elements 1TB Hard drive that is only around to 7 months old , well my mom was getting tired of it so my dad went and bought his own, same thing, it is a WD Elements 1tb Hard Drive BUT his Bluray player will not recognize it which is weird cause it reads my mom's just fine... so whats the deal? (sorry i cant give any info on any of the Devices, i dont have any of them on hand)

Hi there Crystal_25,

That is unpleasant. 🙁

The file systems of both drives could be different.

You need to check what is the file system of the drive that is working.(NTFS, FAT32, etc.) You can do so, if you just go to Disk Management, while the drive is connected to your computer: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=2VDGou

If for example, the working one is formatted to NTFS while the other one is formatted to FAT32, you will need to reformat the latter to NTFS. Keep in mind that reformatting is a data destructive process. You need to back up the data first.

Here's how you can repartition and reformat a drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=61hA2j

Hope this will help,
D_Know_WD :)

both drives are NTFS, that would be the issue but the Blu-Ray player is an LG BD390 or newer which are famous for being able to read both formats. so there is really no excuse as to why is not working. i really have a feeling its the fault of the person more than the drive.
