Weird one for me. I've got a LG GH24NS90 DVD burner that I've had in a win 7 PC for several years but never used it to burn a data DVD. Tried today with the free version of Ashampoo (has always worked fine for me). Software said it burned and verified the files successfully. DVD ejects, I push it back closed and windows acts like there's no DVD in the machine. Says "insert DVD" or some such rot. DVD drive doesn't show up in device manager. Data DVDs that I burned over the last several years do not show up either except for one single DVD that works as it should. Very old CD-r disks work fine. Audio CDs work fine. The DVD that I just burned works fine in another PC. I uninstalled the drive, rebooted and let windows reinstall the driver. No change. Using Verbatim DVD-r disks and have finalize the disk checked. Guessing it's operator error. Anybody know what in the world could be going on?

Thanks in advance.

OK, I think it's working now. I took the drive out of the PC, took the bottom plate off the drive, moved the lens carriage back and forth to it's fullest extent. Bent a Q-tip to a 90 degree angle and brushed off the lens area (impossible to see the lens on this one) and it's working now. Either the SATA cable needed a reseat or a piece of dust or spider web on the lens? I dunno. Seems to be working as it should now.
That is a weird one like you said. I have question if you insert no CD or DVD into the drive can you see the drive in file explorer? It should say DVD Drive or something like that. Please let me know this and we will take further steps to sort you out and thanks for the detailed description of the situtaion my friend. Also are you using Windows 7 right now or what?👶🎗✝

Thanks Turtle Rig. Yes, this is a win 7 machine. Drive shows up in file mgr as DVD RW Drive (D:), Just shows no file contents with this new, and most of the other Data DVDs I've made and used on another win 7 machine over the last few years. CDrs from 10-15 years ago show up fine when inserted.
