lg dvd/cd drive only reads cd, uded to read both, what to do?

my LG GH22NS90 ATA CD/DVD reads the cd ok but does not even know I have a DVD in the drive, it tells me to "insert disc"------any solutions?? I've searched LG website & nothing for my drive-----also searched the net & can't come up with a solution----------perhaps its just plain broken, but I'm not sure------its 3 years old--------Thank You for your answer---------

Have you tried multiple disks? If none of them work, the DVD pickup head could be bad, there are two separate ones, one for CDs one for DVDs. Either could fail independently.
