LG DVD/RW Device Not Working

I have an LG DVDRAM GH24NSB0 ATA DVD Re-RWriter, it won't recognise any disks I put into it. It is recognised in the Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM Drives but there is no mention of it being an RW device, which it should be. I have uninstalled the drive from the device manager and had the drivers reinstall on startup. I have also removed the lowerfilters key in the registry (there wan't an upperfilters key to remove). Still nothing. Not sure what else to do?

Update - just found that it does recognise disks with software on them such as programmes and drivers.

try reinstalling the intel or amd motherboard chipset driver to rule out a damaged driver. try the drive in another pc if it wont read in another pc it dead.
