LG G3 Battery Drain

My LG G3 has been having serious battery and overheating issues for several weeks now. Whenever I check the battery app, it tells me that the "phone" app has been using 15-25% of the battery, despite me almost never making phone calls.

What's going on here?

I have a g3 also and have experience high drain since the last update. My 'Phone' app is at 5% currently and I suspect its being used to transmit/receive data. Like you I rarely use my phone but I do some texting. My texting, including multimedia messages, will work even with my data and wifi turned off so I know the phone still has access (spying on what I do I'm sure) but I do get alot more battery life with data turned off.

g3 has an issue from the beginning,check downloading battery guru there is not much to do,its the g3 itself and its battery

I would have to disagree, mine lasted 3 days before the update and now its barely 1 if I don't turn off data.

Try ot battery guru I had an issue after lollipo update and then on nexus 5 and using battery guru I honestly seen big difference
