LG Monitor W2453V resolution problem

I recently built up a new machine for my fiancee and am having some issues with the monitor/video card setup. (system details below problem description)

I have no experience with HD video on PCs, so forgive me if this is a noob question (I wouldn't be surprised!)

Her new monitor is a 24" wide screen and supposed to support 1080p (1920 x 1080) as the default resolution. When I set the resolution to 1080p, the res changes without any problem, but not all of the screen real estate is used. In fact, there is about an inch of unused (black) screen on either side and a bit less on the top and bottom.

Setting the res to 1680 x 1050 results in the full screen real estate being used, but is obviously not the max res her screen / card can support.


I am also having issues with windows leaving a temporary trail when being dragged over other open windows, which in my experience generally indicates some type of directX or video driver issue, so the problem may be there (any tips on that are also appreciated!) I can provide a screenshot if it would help.

The issue I think you will find is that you have to set the configuration in your Catalyst Drivers Software. You may also find that in your HZ setting Catalyst may have the HZ rating set to low. Investigate that carefully. When you try and change the res in Windows it is being influenced by your Catalyst settings.

Update the card driver with the latest one (10.8), see if that help or not.
Also make sure the "OverScan" option in CCC are set to 0%.

It seems like the OverScan was set incorrectly.

Yes Wa1 is right, update your video card drivers first then restart observe if that solved the problem. Even if your monitor support this 1920 x 1080 but your video card has a problem you will not end up satisfied. Try to install another video card just to check this.
