LG Smart TV connects to Internet through WiFi but media sharing does not work

My recently bought LG Smart TV connects to the internet through WiFi. But it misbehaves while trying to share files on my PC. My PC is Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.

Media sharing on my PC is set to on. The TV randomly detects the PC (rarely) and then everything works fine. But mostly the TV and PC don't "see" each other. Keep in mind that the internet connection never misbehaves.

I tried looking at the IP address assigned to the TV and pinged it. No reply. Host unavailable error. So the TV can't be pinged. Doesn't show up on LAN and yet it connects to the internet using the same network as my PC.

Help please.

Thanks. I'll post the pic when I get home from work. But if I could paint a word picture, I have a WIFI capable modem-router (TP-Link, 150 Mbps). The PC connects to this modem/router using a simple Ethernet cable. The TV connects to the router via WIFI. So they are on the same network and the modem/router is the common gateway to the internet.

Also last time I was getting this problem, what I did was, look at the IP assigned to the TV and then manually enter that IP on the TV settings. I believe that in the process I have set a static IP for the TV. Last night when I switched on both my PC and TV, the TV was detected in an instant.

However I do not think this is a conclusive solution as my TV was randomly detected/not detected by my PC before this. Another thing to mention here is that this problem seems to occur only when my PC is started. Meaning, if my PC is on and the PC & TV "see" each other on the network, then no matter how many times I restart the TV, the connection between PC & TV is reestablished without any hiccups. But if I conversely keep the TV on and restart the PC, it is more than likely that my PC and TV won't "see" each other any more.

Maybe .. I am not sure, your TV or PC are getting a wrong IP as a result of DHCP, I could be wrong. Just keep them using static IPs if that seems to work or do you have to manually input the IP in your TV everytime?

Cheers

That's what I was thinking. Even when I read the assigned IP off the TV settings and try pinging the TV from the PC, it fails. Anyway I'll try working with a static IP. Note that I don't have to set the IP of the PC to be static.

Okay so after working for a while, even the static IP doesn't work. Strange thing is, my TV still shows its assigned IP but when I ping the IP from my PC it says "Destination host unreachable". Note, my TV can access the internet via the same network as my PC. But they can't "see" each other.
