LG soundbar and LG tv both have HDMI ARC sockets but using a HDMI cable with ethernet thet fail to pair.

This is a New LG 50" TV with. 3 HDMI sockets one of which is marked ARC.
The soundbar is LG SH6 with 2 HDMI sockets one of which is marked ARC.
I am using a HDMI cable with ethernet as recommended by LG, in fact I have tried a second cable to exclude a cable fault.
The tv and sound bar work using the optical connection but I would like to get the HDMI link to work.
Any ideas and in particular would appreaciate comments from anyone who has managed to pair to above successfully.

You may have to explicitly TURN ON ARC via the configuration menus.

I have the same issue between my LG 55LB582T and my denon soundbar. the TV's settings are on ARC sound. Help?
