I have a GA-Z97M-D3H mobo with an I5 LGA 1150 processor. I want to upgrade to Windows 11. I am looking at the
Intel Core i7-4790 CPU. The mobo has a 20 pin socket for a TPM. so that should not be a problem. All of the fans are Noctua and the case runs super quiet and cool.
Will the 4790 work with Wondows 11? I keep getting "Yes" and "No" responses.
This seems like the best place to find a true answer.
TIA - Mark
PS: I usually use the computer to rip Blu-Rays but I want to use it as my main HTPC device.
Edit: Maybe Rufus might help.

Yes, if you force it.

No, if you don't.

There is a possibility that future updates to Windows 11 may not work on unsupported hardware. The latest version makes a lot of CPUs straight up incompatible.

Consider Linux, that is my plan this weekend.
I ran Ubuntu in the past. It was causing inconsistent problems with my Nvidia GPU. I might have caused those problems since I allowed updates to Ubuntu. If I go that route again, I'll use the LTS version and not apply any updates. Thanks for your concern.

Nvidia and Linux don't really get along. AMD is the GPU of choice for Linux.

I'm told that Linux Kernel 6+ has native support for Intel Arc as well, so going to give that a try. Intel does offer drivers specifically for Ubuntu, but that seems to be about the GPGPU side of things.
