I recently got a new motherboard because my old one had a pin on the ram slot die for some reason. I bought a prebuilt a long time ago and over the years I upgraded the case, gpu, power supply etc. At this point its almost a completely new pc aside from the cpu and I have a bunch of spare components that are still pretty decent just in my loft. I realised that with a new cpu I could build another pc that I could use spare with my old components. Only issue is that Im still using the same cpu (i5-8400) in the pc. The motherboard I removed was a gigabyte Z370M D3H that has an lga 1151 socket and has support for 8th gen cpus. I found out that there are lots of other LGA 1151 socket cpus though. Could I potentially buy a 6th gen cpu, or a pentium cpu with a 1151 socket and use that in the board? Im guessing there would be some issue but Im interested as I would prefer to put these componenents to use rather than them lying around. Thanks
