I've gotten the itch to build a new system for myself. My only sticking point is an Intel processor. In looking at ASUS boards, the ASUS ROG Maximus XII Hero Z490 LGA 1200 and the ASUS Prime Z390-A Motherboard LGA1151 both drew my interest. Naturally cost is a factor, but not a deterrent if the itch needs scratching, and it has been a few years.

What I use my PC for: Remotely managing my network and end-users, writing novels, project managing and developing a game using Unreal Engine, and playing games.

Longevity-wise, it is better to go with a LGA1200 or LGA 1151 CPU at this juncture?

Solution
It is inevitable.
AMD did more than 2 generations - 300, 400, and 500 - and learned the hard way why Intel's only been doing 2; it opens up more opportunities for bios and chipset level headaches.
I expect them to do just 2 generations with the AM5 platform.
