Hi ,

I'm just about to purchase the parts for building my new gaming PC ,

I was decided to buy Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 =280 $ & ASUS P7P55D-E Pro LGA 1156 Intel P55 S = 190 $

Until I did a further search & reading about different CPUs , I found that :

Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache =280$ & ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58
= 210 $ "After 20$ promotion"

Is it better than the 860 ? the 2nd combination is 20 $ more ,

If so , which one of the following memories is the best :

Ok ,

My other components are :

Heatsink : COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus 30$

Thermal paste : ARCTIC COOLING MX-3 = 15 $

GPU : ASUS GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) = 350 $

Power supply : Antec TruePower New TP-750 750W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 = 115$

SSD : OCZ Agility 2 OCZSSD2-2AGT50G 2.5" 50GB SATA II MLC = 190 $

So , please help me to decide whether 860 or 930 ? and why ? is it deserve pushing my budget for it ?

Budget around 1500 $ excluding the case ,,,

SSD wise if you're willing to spend $200 get a X25-M G2 80 gb drive.

If you're willing to spend $250, get 2 X250-V 40 GB in Raid 0.

If you're willing to spend $300 get a Vertex LE 100gb. There's the Corsair Nova too. The Vertex is better performing, but the Corsair is ~20 GB larger, but has issues, see below.

If you're willing to spend $400 get 2 X25-M 80GB in Raid 0.

I don't like the Corsair Nova because it's random read/write is just horrendous, and that has the biggest impact on user experience. Really, ATM you should only be using sandforce or Intel controllers for a SSD.

Basically all your SSD choices there.

Will , I play games but I'm not like those crazy gamers who's spends thousands of dollars in PC components ,

I have other uses like , HD movies , may be some times photos editing in photoshop , etc. ...

So , I'll consider bother the I7 930 & the RAM you mentioned ,,

Can you please tell me your opinion with the 1366 motherboard that I mentioned previously ?

Thank You ,,

Still OCZ Agility 2 50GB is much better than Intel X25-M especially in Sequential Access - Write time ,

See the comparisons

I think 50GB is enough to handle Windows 7 & few games , because I will have an additional WD black 1TB SATA III as well ,

The ATI is not an option for me , because in the future I may by Nvidia 3D kit ,

Thank you ,,

The board is a good one. I'd also look at the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (combo with the i7). It's another really good board that's cheaper.

I'll point out that 50 GB isn't that much space. SSDs like to have 20% free space, so after that and the OS, you've only got enough room for around 3 games and some additional programs. Not exactly a lot of space. You should aim for being able to have all of our frequently used programs/games on the SSD.

Newegg isn't the place to look at Hardware reviews. Anandtech is ATM the best source for SSD reviews.

No doubt the Vertex 2's are fast, but at what cost?

Cost per USABLE GB chart. I don't think Vertex's 2 have the firmware update to their sandforce controllers released yet, so Vertex's 2 would come in at $4.28/GB. (vertex 2's are agility 2's with a slightly modified controller).

A 80 GB x25-M is now $195. That comes to $2.62 for each usable gigabyte.

Performance wise, both of these get blown away when you take Raid 0 Intel drives into account.

Thank you again MadAdmiral ,

I'll consider the ASUS one , "I like ASUS personally"

So , I think you your opinion is logical

I'll need depending on my usage at least 80GB ..

MadAdmiral ,
Thank you again ,
I didn't get your point , do you mean that the Intel SSDs is economical with a satisfactory performance compared with OCZ ?

Do recommend using 2 40Gb of Intel SSD , in raid 0 ?

So , I get a 80Gb in total & much better performance than OCZ ?

Is installing raid 0 difficult ? (I never done it before !)

Does it cause any difficulties during operating system installation ?

Yea, my point is that the Vertex 2's are very expensive for not much more performance, at least not in random read/write which is what matters.

Raid 0 Intel drives is currently pretty damn amazing performance for low cost. They're the only company who's drives would work in that setup though.

Raid 0 isn't hard at all.

Here's a link to a youtube video going through it, with a GA BIOS too!. You can google some more guides.
