LGA 2011-v3 vs 1151 for editing

Hello community

I have a little doubt about what to choose.

I am building a new computer for editing, and also for gaming, but mostly to edit on.

I have two setup:


First one:

MBD: Asus X99-A/USB 3.1
CPU: i7 6850k
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

HDD: Seagate Barracude 2TB

RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2666 4*8GB

Second setup:

MBD: MSI Z370 KRAIT GAMING - Coffee Lake
CPU: i7 8700k
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

HDD: Seagate Barracude 2TB

RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2666 4*8GB

So the big question is what should i choose?

I have read that the LGA2011-v3 is better for editing because it works better with more cores than the LGA1151 does, but does it matter when the cpu I have only is 6 cores? Could understand if I had a 10-cores cpu, but they cost too much.

It depends if you plan on upgrading your PC in the future. If you do go for the first one, if you don't you can go for the second one. I would also think about saving a little bit more money to buy a gtx1070 to get a better performance.

i do a lot of editing on the rig in my signature on an X99 chipset board. Personally i'd suggest stepping up to a 12 core cpu - mine is 8C/16T and i'm feeling limited when rendering 4k video mainly because of the size of the files, but 4K is becoming the new standard. At a minimum i'd go with a 12 core cpu, which is going to mean @ $1200

on the gpu i'd move up to an 8 GB GTX 1070. I realize that probably stretches the bejesus out of your budget
You should also consider going to at least 16GB of ram which stretches your budget even more

one other consideration - consider going with 2 NVMe PCIe SSDs - write speeds are much higher - i use one for a "video worktable" where i place the video to be rendered, and then a 2nd one to write or render the file to. I saw a decent drop in times when i added the 2nd NVMe drive

He was thinking about buying 32gb of RAM (4*8gb).
