Okay, over a year ago I asked a similar question but now I'm asking a slightly different question. I am trying to build a core 2 duo/core 2 extreme mini itx w/ a pci-e x16 slot with 2 sticks of 4GB each DDR2 PC2-5300 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.8V 512Meg x 64 for a total of 8GB of memory and I'm having difficulty finding a MOBO. I would also like the motherboard to support O.C. as opposed to an HP/Compaq mobo that I can't tool around with the BIOS much. I thought I found one but it only had one memory slot, then I thought I found another and it turned out to be a foxcon that was really an HP with single channel memory architecture. If I missed anything please ask me if you think you can help. In conclusion I need a mobo that I'm not sure exist anymore, am I wrong?

If you're building an office PC, or very light duty home PC, then LGA775 is still sufficient, but is dead as far as upgrade path. If you buy a new LGA1150 board, you could start out with a Pentium G3258 which can handle light and even some modest tasks, but have an upgrade path all the way to i7 if you need it. You'll also get that PCIe slot, which you'll need for a gaming graphics card. Other interfaces on the new board (e.g. USB3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) will also be faster.

I guess I should start looking for a lga1150. I have a few decent c2d 775's already and I have the memory and I have the case and the gpu so I was just wanting to make something with it all. Also grandmaster can you tell me why those don't go together? I'm not claiming to know it all but I am interested in learning more.

Most mini ITX boards from back then are server boards, only a handful of models of ITX boards ever came out with actual pci-e slots.

New without the ability to take any pci-e cards http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Executive-Mini-ITX-Graphics-1333MHz/dp/B001BN17ZM

Used http://www.ebay.com/itm/Foxconn-G41S-K-Intel-G41-ICH7-LGA-775-Socket-DDR2-Mini-ITX-Motherboard-R10-G4-/151347452395?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item233d02d9eb but limited to one dimm

Used but also a great bundle if it stays under $100 USD http://www.ebay.com/itm/ZOTAC-GF9300-ITX-WiFi-LGA-775-Intel-MOBO-with-Q9650-Core-2-QUAD-CPU-3-00GHz-/231506482887?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e6dc96c7 this is probably one of the only gaming ITX boards that are from that time.

You can put a lga775 build together if you really want to. Its getting hard to find stuff for them now. ddr3 ram is cheaper than ddr2. You have to use old windows with lga775.

Anything more than 5 y.o. becomes expensive, low performing and restrictive.
