so recently ive been having issues with my current processor, intel core 2 duo e7500. i want to upgrade it, but im using an outdated socket on my motherboard. Now, i just want to change out my motherboard from a socket 775 mobo to a socket 1151 mobo. My current mobo is a lenovo MTQ45NK and i want a motherboard thats a similar size and has mostly the same i/o and pci slots. Any suggestions or boards that i can use? my price range is under $100

Solution
Your E7500 has 2 threads and a passmark rating of 1055. That is when both threads are 100% busy.
The single thread rating is 1169. That is what most games really need.

I think a Q9650 would work, but see if you can't use google to confirm that your motherboard supports one.
i get indications that it does, but I found nothing official.
The Q9650 has 4 threads. There are some games that actually need 4 threads to run. That is good.
The passmark rating is 2358/ 1297. A good boost only if your games can make effective use of more than 4 threads.

Past that, you are looking at not only a cpu change, but at a motherboard and ddr4 ram change.
You are looking at perhaps a $250 budget.
Perhaps more if you do not have a discrete graphics card.
Looking at images for that motherboard, I think you are out of luck.
It is not a standard motherboard. It looks like a BTX format.

You are probably going to need a new case.

If it is only the processor that is faulty(which I doubt) then perhaps a Q9650 would be a decent upgrade.
They go for about $50 on ebay.
I say doubt because intel processors rarely fail. Your motherboard is a more likely cause of problems.

Wellthe processor isnt faulty, its just very slow and can barely run anything i do. I mostly play roblox and gta v, and i dont think the q9650 will work, do you think it could?

So in other words the q9650 is the better option?

The Intel Core2Quad Q9650 would be the best option if it's compatible with your motherboard. As with @geofelt,. what I've found shows Core2Quads as compatible, but I'm not sure the 95 watt Q9650 is or if the motherboard has a 65 watt limitation in which case the Q9550S would be your best option.

To be honest though, unless you can get one for next to nothing, you would probably be better off saving for a newer system.
