How you doing all. Alex, Russian Federation here. I repair phones, tablets, laptops. Recently I bought for a symbolic price system block and monitor, ASUS p5q3 (manual) and monitor DELL 2709Wb (27 inch monitor), all for a mere 1500 rubles or for 20 bucks, or for 17 euro. Good stuff. Because now I don't have to place my lenovo w520 on my work desk, or beside it on another desk, and can view boardviews and manuals................ Here is a quick photo. Coming up thing that places my keyboard uder my desk. But for another day or two like this. Not in the photo is microscope which I will place on the left. This is not a final version. I'm waiting for some things before I mount a microscope. Plus in the pic I do have a better PSU, that's just for a particular job, sometimes analog is better. But in anycase, this system block is plenty as is. That is Q8300 cpu and 2 gig ram. But I want better CPU, since it's cheap, plus 16 gig ram -- that's like 30 bucks for ram and 15 bucks for CPU. Whatever.......... One iPhone repair.
Anyway. Excellent buy. At least for me.
When I look at top notch LGA 955 CPU list on wiki -- https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_2_Quad and then search my local market place for top notch CPU's, I owten get results such as Xeon E5440, analog of Q9550....
Well here is the question. Will my mobo accept E5440? And what kind of memory can I run with it? Can I run with it? Can I run 1333? Because on my mobo I can populate 4 slots and get a maximum of 16 gigs. If I got higher, 1600 and 1800 that's only 2 slots and 8 gigs. I recon more memory is best.
Please help me, I really like to upgrade my CPU, but I don't know if Xeon will work in my particular mobo.
P.S. why bother with this old crap and not build a new machine? Frankly there is no need for it. The way it is, Q8300 and 2 gig of ram and win 10 it works perfect for opening boardviews and browsing internet. Frankly I don't care about anything new. On my desk you can see Aoyue. Well that's a 3 in 1 hot air, solder iron, desoder gun. I think it's better than top notch soldering stations that feature 1 or 2 functions. It gets the job done good, and I love it. I'm used to it. Prior to this computer I had laptop on my other desk, and it was working well for me. There is just no need for gaming station in my line of work. Besides, I run Linux most of the time, arch linux to be exact. I don't care.
