Licensing issues with Win8 OEM Laptop Motherboard swapover?

Problem:

- I have a friends ASUS x501a laptop here. The motherboard IS faulty. No POST, screen display etc. Only the Power light goes on when you press the power button; no noise, sound or display.

Proposed solution:

- Can I just go and order the same motherboard off ebay, swap it and turn on without any licensing issues?

Any advice or pointers are greatly appreciated thanks!

Windows 8 OEM licensing changed from the past - the OEM vs. Full Retail has to do with support (OEM - who built it supports it, Retail - Microsoft Supports), where previous versions (Windows 7 and lower) OEM was licensed to a mobo.

Your telling me that the OS installed on the hard drive does not tie itself with any codes or keys on the hardware?

That is correct. The limitation with Windows 8 is that you can only run one copy with the same key but you can move it to a new machine as long as you are no longer using the other one.
