Ok, last Dominating Licid question, I swear. :)

If I have 'dominated' my opponent's creature with the D.Licid, is there any way I can
sacrifice that creature AND pay the U to end the dominating effect, thus keeping the
licid alive and sacrificing the opponent's critter?

---------
Dominating Licid
{1}{U}{U}
Creature -- Licid
1/1
{1}{U}{U}, {T}: Dominating Licid loses this ability, becomes an enchant creature
enchanting target creature, and gains "{U}: End the effect that created this
ability."
You control enchanted creature.
----------

TIA,

No. If you sacrifice the enchanted creature, before the next time you
get priority (and the chance to end the effect), a state-based effect
will put the Dominating Licid in the graveyard.

The closest you can come to this is something like Renounce:

Renounce
{1}{W}
Instant
Sacrifice any number of permanents. You gain 2 life for each one
sacrificed this way.

You could sacrifice both the enchanted creature and the Dominating Licid
itself (in that order).

E-ver?

No, there is no way at all to do this.

Either you end the effect first, and then you don't control the creature after
that and so can't sacrifice it... or you sacrifice it first, which puts it into
the graveyard, and then puts the Licid-ment into the graveyard as a state-based
effect before anything else can be done.

There is no way to sacrifice the creature, pause, and end the effect of the
Licid while the Licid's still in play.

Not a direct sacrifice, like Spawning Pit or Grab the Reins. But you
could do something with a delayed sacrifice, like, say, Berserk.
***
Berserk {G}
Instant
A/B/U Uncommon
- Play Berserk only before the combat damage step.
- Target creature gains trample and gets +X/+0 until end of turn,
where X is its power. At end of turn, destroy that creature if it
attacked this turn.
***

Cast Berserk, attack with it, remove the Licid.
They get the creature back, but it's destroyed at the end of your
turn.

Even if the creature would receive deadly damage in combat, once the
damage is on the stack, you could remove the Licid and return them
their creature (which removes it from combat), but it still gets the
damage that would be dealt to it.

***
310.4a Combat damage is dealt as it was originally assigned even if
the creature dealing damage is no longer in play, its power has
changed, or the creature receiving damage has left combat.
***

So, that could be a good way to smash their creatures but keep your
Licid anyway.

I think there are more recent cards that give a benefit, then kill the
creature, but I couldn't think of any off the top of my head.

Berserk does not involve any sacrifice.

Right. Which works fine, _because_ it's not a sacrifice.

Right. Once combat damage is assigned, it's dealt as assigned if able - all
it cares about is that the creature (or player) is still a creature (or player)
in play (or in the game), it doesn't check who controls the creature or what
its name now is or anything like that.

[ideas about gaining control with a Dominating Licid, applying a
'destroy later', then losing control again]

Here are some ideas that I used when making a Crown of the Ages deck
using Control Magic and the like. Not all of them made it to the deck.
I may refurbish the deck with this Dominating Licid idea. Note that
you could also use some of these in a deck of regenerating creatures.

Celestial Sword {6} Artifact
/ {3}, {T}: Target creature you control gets +3/+3 until end of turn.
Destroy it at end of turn. A creature destroyed this way can't be
regenerated.

Mogg Cannon {2} Artifact
/ {T}: Target creature you control gets +1/+0 and gains flying until end
of turn. Destroy that creature at end of turn.

Blood Frenzy {1}{R} Instant
/ Target attacking or blocking creature gets +4/+0 until end of turn.
Destroy that creature at end of turn.

Puffer Extract {5} Artifact
/ {X}, {T}: Target creature you control gets +X/+X until end of turn.
Destroy it at end of turn.

Glyph of Destruction {R} Instant
/ Target blocking Wall you control gets +10/+0 until end of combat.
Prevent all damage that would be dealt to it this turn. Destroy it at
end of turn.

Goblin Sappers {1}{R} Creature -- Goblin 1/1
/ {R}{R}, {T}: Target creature you control is unblockable this turn.
Destroy it and Goblin Sappers at end of combat.
/ {R}{R}{R}{R}, {T}: Target creature you control is unblockable this
turn. Destroy it at end of combat.
